David John Jordan

David was the dear son of the late John Patrick Jordan and Anna Marie Dayer Jordan; adored father of Keema (Kima) Whitehawk Jordan; beloved brother of Michael (Nancy), Patricia (Ray) Fox, the late baby Joan, the late Judy, the late John, the late Dennis, the late baby Robert, the late baby Joseph, Daniel (Mary Ann), Patrick (Theresa), the late Martin (Maureen) and Mary (Scott) Mattas; loving uncle to Corey (Jamie) Mattas, Meghan Jordan (Ryan McGuire), the late John Fox (Alexandria Seydel), Lisa (Michael) Lowes, Lauren Gaborek, Michael Mattas, Camille Jordan, Jordan Mattas, John P. Jordan, Jack Jordan, Elizabeth Mattas, Liam Jordan, Caroline Jordan, Martin Jordan, Jr., Jackson Mattas and Fallon Lowes; cherished  friend, nephew and cousin to many.

David grew up on the West Side of Chicago, the 7th of 10 children who all attended St. Angela School.  David went on to St. Patrick High School and then Loyola University of Chicago where he earned degrees in English and Communications and was an editor on the school’s newspaper, The Phoenix. David then earned a masters degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He worked as a reporter and editor for Lerner News Publications.

David was handsome, funny, gentle and had a brilliant mind. He was witty, with an oddball, offbeat sense of humor but was never mean spirited. He was a terrific writer and read everything.

He loved his daughter, Kima, with his whole heart. He loved his friends and his crazy, loud, big, fun family, including his Swiss cousins, having had the opportunity to make two trips to Switzerland along with other travels across Europe.

He was an inspiration to many, fighting through 32 years of various serious health problems and physical limitations that started with a brain tumor at age 31. David worked tirelessly and bravely to get through each day. He had help from many angels, in his last 5 years on earth.

He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Sorry for your loss. I’ll always remember David as easygoing, and kind. He shined as Red Baron Snoopy in our 8th grade concert.
