Bernard “Bryan” O’Connor

Bernard “Bryan” O’Connor, 98, passed from this life on December 6, 2022. Bryan was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ellen, née Halleran, and loving father of Ellen (Kevin) Skinner, Maureen Block, Margaret “Peg” (John) Basil, Bryan, Denise (Pascal Kerin), Mary Catherine (Steve Gennrich), and the late Matthew (Jean). He cherished his grandchildren (Megan, Kelly, Charlie, Luke, Russell, Claire, Neil, Colleen) and great-grandchildren (Everett, Calvin, Lane, Helen). Bryan is survived by his sister Margaret (Phil) Smith. Their parents, Timothy and Hannah (née Daly), immigrated from Co. Kerry, Ireland, raising them and the late David, Neil, Thomas, Catherine, and Mary in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood. He was a fond uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Bryan was a member of the 4400 Club and enjoyed a long career in the U.S. Postal Service. He was a storyteller and a reader of maps. He loved rivers, lakes, canoes, and road trips—especially when they all came together on an excursion to a beautiful place.
